How to Grow Cannalily Plants

Canna lily prefer a spot in the garden with well drained fertile soil preferably a place in the garden that holds more moisture than other areas. The more sun they recieve the larger the plants and subsequently the blooms will be. 12 hours of direct sunlight is advisable for full growth. When planting outdoors, prepare holes that are approx. 4 to 6 inches deep, depending on the size of the plant. If planting in containers, choose large decorative pots and fill with a well-draining potting mix into which you have added a little peat moss and perlite. An organic fertilizer such as Bio Spectrum organic fertilizer or equel will help ensure strong growth. Place one plant into each hole. If you are planting more than one plant, be sure to leave at least 18 inches between plants. If your pot is large, you can plant two or three plants in each pot. Backfill your pot or hole with additional soil until the roots are well covered and pat down the dirt around the base of each plant.  Water in your new plants sit back and wait for the show.
